Congressional Committee Seeks Questioning with Andrew in Epstein Investigation

A American legislative body investigating sex offender financier Jeffrey Epstein has reached out to Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, once Britain’s Prince Andrew, demanding that he submit to questioning as part of its investigation into Epstein’s wrongdoings.

In a communication made public on Thursday, a lawmaker, the top Democrat on the House oversight committee, requested that King Charles III’s sibling assist with its investigation.

The formal request to provide testimony comes a week after Mountbatten Windsor was lost his HRH style and opted to give up his rented residence in Windsor.

Documents and Claims

Mountbatten Windsor’s name appears in records and aviation records obtained from Epstein’s estate and disclosed by the committee. He has also been alleged by one of Epstein’s accusers, the late Virginia Giuffre, of misconduct.

“The panel will probe claims of abuse by Mountbatten Windsor, and will seek details on Epstein’s network, network, and connections based on the men’s enduring and thoroughly recorded friendship,” the committee said in a statement.

It sought details from Mountbatten Windsor on specifics of his relationship with Epstein, who took his own life in a New York detention facility in 2019. Andrew has consistently strongly denied any wrongdoing.

Substance of the Communication

“It has been publicly reported that your friendship with Mr Epstein began in 1999 and that you remained close through and after his 2008 sentencing for trafficking underage girls for prostitution,” the letter said.

It stated further: “It has also been claimed that you traveled with Epstein to his New York home, the Queen’s residence at Balmoral, and to Mr Epstein’s secluded island in the US Virgin Islands, where you have been alleged of abusing underage individuals. This intimate friendship with Mr Epstein, coupled with the recently revealed 2011 digital communication in which you wrote to him ‘we are in this together’, further confirms our suspicion that you may have important details about the offenses committed by Mr Epstein and his co-conspirators.”

A notification regarding the letter said it was co-signed by 13 other Democrats on the committee and asks a reply by 20 November.

Earlier Statements and Assistance

The letter follows a week after another Democrat on the committee told: “Andrew should be summoned to give evidence before the panel. The public has the right to know who was harming women and minors alongside Epstein.”

However, the representative does not hold the authority to subpoena the ex-royal and Congress itself cannot force testimony from a overseas individual.

In 2020, US authorities said that Mountbatten Windsor failed to cooperate to US appeals for an meeting. The then US attorney for the southern district of New York said that prosecutors and the FBI had reached out to Andrew’s lawyers to follow up on his public commitment that he was “willing to help any relevant law enforcement agency”.

“It’s reasonable for people to know whether Prince Andrew has fulfilled with that pledge,” the attorney said, adding that to date he had “offered zero cooperation”.

The lawmaker said in a announcement that “wealthy and influential men have evaded the law for far too long. Now, ex- Prince Andrew has the chance to come clean and provide accountability for the victims. Oversight Democrats will not cease advocating for responsibility and clarity for those affected of Epstein and his gang of accomplices.”

Another signatory, a Virginia Democrat, said that after hearing testimony to the committee from Epstein’s survivors, as well as media coverage of disclosed papers, “it is vital that Andrew cooperates with the current inquiry. If he is innocent, then he can vindicate himself.”
